Only TimeTheRiver Flows UpAn ocean of time has flowed Under the bridge. The one that we crossed, So long ago. And I have cried a river, Of tears over you, Looking back... if we'd known thenWhat we know now....Yes,things would have been, Different for us. You'd be my husband, And I'd be your wife. And time would have taught us The greatest of truths, As we shared all the days, Of our life. But time has taught us instead, Another of those truths. Maybe greater than that, That true love is from the heart, Timeless and stronger than the years,That has kept our two souls apart .Separated soulmates, We longed for each other, Looking back with eyes filled with tears.Never each one knowing, They were thinking of the other, As we walked apart all of these years. And I could never dream this day,It was my hope of hopes. That I would see the river, Reverse in its direction. And the paths that we had taken, Emerging from the darkness, Into the light of such affection!Following the river back, To where we had capsized, I came to see the shallows, That floods of emotion pushed us to.We now have a stronger boat, To navigate the narrows, The purest love, our compass, I'll wait for you, I'll follow you.©1999 By Sherry Gardner
TheRiver Flows Up
An ocean of time has flowed Under the bridge. The one that we crossed, So long ago. And I have cried a river, Of tears over you, Looking back... if we'd known thenWhat we know now....
Yes,things would have been, Different for us. You'd be my husband, And I'd be your wife. And time would have taught us The greatest of truths, As we shared all the days, Of our life.
But time has taught us instead, Another of those truths. Maybe greater than that, That true love is from the heart, Timeless and stronger than the years,That has kept our two souls apart .
Separated soulmates, We longed for each other, Looking back with eyes filled with tears.Never each one knowing, They were thinking of the other, As we walked apart all of these years.
And I could never dream this day,It was my hope of hopes. That I would see the river, Reverse in its direction. And the paths that we had taken, Emerging from the darkness, Into the light of such affection!
Following the river back, To where we had capsized, I came to see the shallows, That floods of emotion pushed us to.We now have a stronger boat, To navigate the narrows, The purest love, our compass, I'll wait for you, I'll follow you.
